“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” – Gandhi
There are so many vegan alternative products out there today, yet still many people say, “I could I never be vegan. I love ____ too much.” (Usually the blank is cheese). Though I was vegetarian for 11 years before becoming vegan 4 years ago, I was obsessed with cheese. I was addicted, like most of the population is. I found myself going to Olive Garden, ordering the 5 Cheese Ziti, and adding more cheese, tableside. Was it delicious? Yes. Was it good for my body in any way? Absolutely not. I would almost immediately get sick every time. Some people may not mind the constant stomach cramps or trips to the bathroom, but it is no way to live. This was more than just “lactose intolerance.” Not only did my stomach feel much better after becoming vegan, I was able to “cure” some health issues I was having, as well. Cheese actually activates the same reward centers of our brains as cocaine and other drugs, making us want more and more, so it’s no wonder this is the most difficult for most people to give up. I remember the first 6 weeks or so without cheese was the hardest; I was craving it so badly. I stuck with veganism through the Lenten season of 2014, and I decided to never look back. From my experiences, you won’t hear many people say they regret going vegan, they say, “I wish I would have done it sooner.” I created this page because I received a lot of interest about something that I’ve become very passionate about. I hope to help those who are just starting out, or need a little support. I have lots of favorite recipes to share. So go vegan! Your body, the animals, and the earth will thank you. 🙂
